Holiday Knitting 2008

It's that time again for holiday knitting.  It can be a frantic time or a fun time. As some knitters don't partake in this process, I can't seem to avoid some holiday knitting.  I love to give gifts of my knitting.  I'm not one to pull all nighters or get nuts over it, but I do enjoy this time of year.  I honestly love everything about it; the decorations, the music, the smell of pine, candy canes and those great tv specials.  I hope all of you enjoy this time of year too where ever you live.  Here are some items knitters have been so kind to share.  Thank you to all contributors!!

Another Noro Striped Scarf.....this one is from Kansas City, Kansas.  I must admit, I have one started too.  It seems so simple yet gorgeous.  It could come out subtle, masculine, feminine, or funky.  Nice job Leigh M.  If you'd like the pattern to this scarf there is a link below on the other striped scarf.  You can find out more about Leigh on her blog.

Here is a scarf that I made for my niece for Christmas.  It's "double knitting".  I've never done that before.  It has a very nice drape and it was fun to make.....the process does use up more yarn however.  The yarn is an Adrienne Vitadini yarn and am sorry to say I don't know which one as I have lost the label.  BUT, I can tell you, even though it has a little bling to it - it's wool.  NICE~

Helen from Salem Oregon made these Jasmine Fingerless Mitts

by Anne Sahakian.  The yarn used was Seaweed Fingering Handpainted yarn in Boysenberry.  I love the texture of those mitts.....thank you to Anne & Helen!  Here you can visit Anne's blog.....

I think this is the cutest scarf and very creative.  Kristin Gumpert of Moose Threads created this just using up her leftover Red Heart Yarn.  She uses that yarn quite a bit for childrens clothing.  Very fun Kristin of Poulsbo Washington!

This was actually one of "my" finished projects.  This is called the Curly Girl Scarf.  It was a kit I purchased from The Acorn Street Yarn Shop  The kit included the pattern, and a ball of Berroco Zen Colors and a ball of Deco-Ribbon by Crystal Palace Yarns.  It was fun to make and I actually do wear it.....usually with a crisp white blouse.  It's an all season kind of scarf.

Another friend from my Wednesday night knitting group and a regular contributor, Melissa Donaghay from Poulsbo Washington, made this very cool Poinsettia Wreath by Maggie Pace, Knitty Gritty and the DIY Network using Cascade 220 Wool.  I LOVE IT!!!  Thanks for sharing Melissa.....see you tonight, weather permitting~

Jana has been cranking out the knitting, and believe it or not, she works full time and has a toddler.  She is amazing.  Here are some stockings she knit/felt for her family members.  I especially love the ones she had embroidered.  Jana used a pattern from the book, Christmas Stockings 18 Holiday Treasure To Knit by Interweave Press.  She used the Christmas Rainbow Surprise pattern by Barbara Albright.  On the solid stockings, she use Manos Del Uruguay yarn and on the striped one, Noro Kureyon, good job Jana - you ROCK!

Jana Schiewe of Poulsbo knits for her daughter Olivia on a regular basis.  This is her new project; Diane Soucy's Knitting Pure & Simple's Children's Neck Down Bolero using Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran.  The pattern is #275 when you are looking for the pattern.  Lovely Jana~

Jared Flood created the Noro Striped Scarf knit here by Sandy from Stone Mountain Georgia.  The scarf calls for 4 skeins of the Noro Silk Garden, 2 skeins of a main color, and then two other seperate colors.  Sandy used the 221 for her main and then the 255 and the 205 for her other choices.  Sandy it's beautiful!  And Jared - thank you!!

finished noro scarf by Hockey Mom Knits.

Chris from Santa Cruz California made this beautiful sweater by Patons called the "Must Have Cardigan".  The yarn Chris used was Cascade's Ecological Wool from the The Golden Fleece Yarn Shop in her home town.  Chris wanted me to pass along to you that she used a bulkier yarn than called for, so she had to alter the pattern.  Boy you sure can't tell; it's beautiful Chris.....thank you for sharing!!  Check with your LYS for the pattern~

Kristin Gumpert of Poulsbo Washington gets together with a group of us knitters.  I say this because she crochets.  She has a little business called Moose Threads check out her website.  She made this fun set using two different colorways of Noro Sock Yarn.  I think this turned out really cute!  Fun Kristin~

Over the weekend, I popped in on a Amanda at Amanda's Art Yarns & Fibers in Poulsbo Washington.  You all may have seen or heard of the Swirl Shawl, well Amanda made hers into a scarf.  She used 3 skeins of Jojoland Melody for $6.95 each and made this special scarf.  Nice idea Amanda and a super gift idea.

Jana Schiewe is at it again.....this time she's made Kim K.'s beautiful Cashmere Neckwarmer The yarn Jana used was Berroco's Zen Colors.  Jana actually made this for herself to go with her coat for the winter.  Nice job Jana, and if you'd like to know more about Kim K. of Virgina, please visit her website .

Nani Carr of Poulsbo Washington made the Swirl Hat from the 101 Designer One-Skein Wonders book by Judith Durant.  She used yarn from her stash, lost the ball band, but knew it was Cherry Tree Hill yarn.  Shhhhh, it's a Christmas gift!

Jana Schiewe of Poulsbo Washington is a regular contributor to my projects page.  She has a great eye for color and is always knitting the cool new thing.  Here are her Pomatomus socks from Knitty and Cookie A.  The yarn used Shibui Sock Yarn in Dragonfly Teal.  Shibui is one of our sponsors, and Jana belongs to their sock club and plans to attend the Sock Summit in 2009.  Nice work Jana~

Chris Jackson of Poulsbo made this holiday sweater for her Grand-daughter Nikki out of Cascade 220.  The pattern used was Knitting Pure & Simple's Childrens Neckdown Pullover.  Chris is also making her other Grand-daughter a matching sweater in a different color.  What a good Gran you are Chris~

Over the weekend I visited historical Port Townsend, here in Washington state.   Whilst there, I paid a visit to Diva Yarns & Trims This is a sweet store with a lovely selection of yarns.  BUT, wait there's more.....look what I saw - SO CUTE!  Cathy Pipinich is a designer with her own line of patterns called Weezi Wear Designs.  This pattern is #16 and was knit using Cascade Pastaza yarn.  You can purchase these designs at Diva Yarns & Trims; check out their website above.  Nice job Cathy, and I'll see you next time Lois.

Tarri from Mount Vernon Washington has been knitting socks for some time and made the Horcrux socks seen here.  The pattern was written by Susan Lawrence.  Tarri used Schachenmayr nomotta Regia Color 4 Ply yarn.  Nice job tarri and thank you for the photo.  You can visit Tarri's blog here

Kate Moriarty of Poulsbo knit this beautiful sweater using Plymouth's Baby Alpaca Grande Paint in color 8816.  The pattern she used was Knitting Pure & Simple's V-Neck Pullover.  Kate the sweater fits you nicely - keep up the good work, and thanks for sharing your work!

London Nelson of Woodbury Minnesota designed this fun hat a couple of years back.  She calls it Center Square Hat.  I love the play between two colors and the design.  She used Patons Classic Merino Wool.  Pattern courtesy of London and Knitty.  Please visit Londons Etsy shop!  Pattern   Etsy Shop

At Churchmouse Yarns and Teas in Washington state, they have what's called "yarn of the month".  Each month, they feature a new yarn to highlight and it's always 10% off for that month.  This months yarn is from GGH, and it's called Cumba.  Cumba is a wool/alpaca/acrylic blend.  They made this BEAUTIFUL sweater showcasing the yarn.  You can find the pattern used, in the Rebecca Magazine, issue 34 and it's called Sweater With Lace.  It's very feminine - lovely job.  Stop into Churchmouse to see this sweater for yourself~

Jana Schiewe from Poulsbo Washington made this adorable little scarf for a co-workers daughter for Christmas.  Although it looks nice on Jana, I'm sure a little girl will really love it next month.  The pattern is Wavy Scarves from the book Scarves - a Knitter's Dozen.  This XRX book has 20 different patterns in it and I think well worth the price.  Ask for it at your LYS.  The yarn Jana used was Claudia's Handpainted Sock Yarn in colorway Fresia.  Nice work Jana, you are such a sweetie!!

You've seen those patterns for those Wallaby sweaters?  The ones I have seen were mainly for children, but Cassandra Day of Middletown Connecticut made herself a wallaby sweater.  The yarn she used was Farmhouse Yarns in Evergreen.  This is a hand-spun, hand-dyed yarn and it's perfect for the cooler temperature.  Check out Cassandra's blog  Thanks for the entry Cassandra - nice job, and enoy the new sweater!

CROCHET - socks!  Kristin Gumpert of Poulsbo Washington and also Moose Threads made these little girl knee high socks.  They are smashing, really!!  The pair on the left was made with Mondial Ciao Superwash and the pair on the right, was made with Cherry Tree Hill Merino Sock Yarn.  Thanks for sharing Kristin~

Kitty from Seabeck Washington made these cool "Fingerless Garter Mitts" from the book One-Skein by Leigh Radford.  The yarn she used was Claudia Handpaint Fingering Merino.  Perfect gift idea, nice job Kitty!

Marie from Bowie Maryland made the Lady Elenore Entrelac Stole by Kathleen Power Johnson using some variegated bulky yarn purchased at the Sheep & Wool Festival.  Marie reduced the number of stitches to 42 (7 blocks of 6 stitches in each row) and let the yarn do it's magic.  You can find the pattern for the stole in the book Scarf Style.  Look for this book at your LYS.  Nice job Marie, it's beautiful, I love it!!

RuthAnn Stone of Connecticut made these mitts out of Plymouth Encore solid and Colorspun worsted weight yarn.  She redesigned a mitten pattern that she had and titled them Mailman/Mailwoman Mitts.  She made them for her Church Fall Fair and sold all her mitts.  I think it's a great idea for a holiday gift for your mail carrier.  Good thinking RuthAnn!

June Malfetano of Paradise Valley Arizona made this sweater using Cascade 220.  You find the pattern to this sweater from the Fall 2007 issue of Knitters Magazine.  Nice job June!
