August will be another free month for all to participate in. It will be so busy from my week in Texas and the two shops I visited there, to my coverage of the Sock Summit in Portland, to the coverage of our own Seattle Mariner Stitch N Pitch that I plan to cover. So I wante every one to show us their beautiful knitting that they have been working on all summer long. This will be so fun - send your entries to my email addy from the contact page of the site here. Happy knitting and enjoy the rest of your summer! |
Lynn is a friend of mine that I knit with every Wednesday night, and she lives on Bainbridge Island Like I do. Here is her latest knit, the Baby Surprise Jacket by Elizabeth Zimmerman. The yarn that Lynn used is by Jojoland - Rhythm. One of these days, I'll get mine done uh-hmmmm! Nice work Lynn~
Rosemary is a resident of Washington state and she has knit the Childrens Poncho #243 by Diane Soucy for her granddaughter. The yarn that Rosemary used is from Cascade Yarns, 220 Superwash Paints. Rosemary purchased her project at Cultured Purls of Issaquah, Washington. This poncho makes me think of 'Little Red Ridinghood', and also back to school. Thank you for sharing your work Rosemary~
Cathy lives in Texas and loves to knit hats! This is a hat that she knit for her sister, who's a OSU fan. It's almost that time again for college football - I can't wait!! Cathy took her inspiration from a pattern called Tasseled Fez by Charlene Schurch, but made her own unique additions. The yarn that Cathy used is from Lion Brand, Wool-Ease in the solids and the heathers. You can find the 'fez' pattern in the book Hats On! I love what you did Cathy, it's real special - nice work!
Rachel is from Brooklyn, New York, and she has knit the Hunky-Dory Hat by Erin Ruth using Punta Yarns' Merisoft Hand Painted. It's almost that time again to be thinking about hats - BUT I LOVE SUMMER.....thanks Rachel for sharing your work. Rachel's LYS is Stitch Therapy, also in Brooklyn, New York~
Wendy lives in Hanford, California, and she has knit the Houndstooth Scarf by Eve Self. Wendy's choice of yarn for this project was Moda Dea Washable Wool. Wendy personalized this project by using slipped stitches every other row, using only 1 color at a time on those rows. She also omitted the ribbing and fringe to make it just the way she wanted it. I've always loved houndstooth (and I love the name too), and black and white - it's a classic. Nice work Wendy, and thanks for participating.
Lindsey of Cincinnati, Ohio, made the Cotty socks using Blue Moon Fiber Arts, Socks that Rock Mediumweight. The colorway you see is Dreidel, and the pattern for the socks was written by Irishgirlieknits. It's all about socks these days with the Sock Summit event having just happened in Portland, Oregon. That's some great knitting Lindsey, thanks for sharing.
AJ comes to us from Canyon Country, California. She has knit the Garter Rib socks by Charlene Schurch using Malabrigo Yarn, Sock. The colorway is Cote D'Azure and you can find this pattern in the book Sensational Knitted Socks also by Charlene Schurch. Ask for this book at your LYS - if you have trouble finding it, look at your local library. AJ purchased her yarn at Simply Knitting in Santa Clarita, California. It's nice to see a man friendly looking sock - good work AJ, and thanks for participating.
Beverly is from Columbia, South Carolina, and she knit the 'Angee' socks by Cookie A. You can find the pattern to this sock in Cookie's book 'Sock Innovation'. Ask for it at your LYS. The yarn Beverly chose if from Sundara Yarn, Sock Yarn. I love that periwinkly blue/purple, one of my favorite colors. Thanks Beverly for sharing your work!
Here's another pair of socks made by a friend, Lynn. She made these socks for me, for my birthday. She used the 'Flat Feet' yarn, and followed Cat Bordhi's basic pattern, with the ribbed cuff. Thank you Lynn.....I'm saving them for Sock Summit!!
My friend Chris who lives in Poulsbo, and is one of knitting buddies AND IT'S HER BIRTHDAY TODAY, knit these Socks of Kindness: a recipe by Chawne. The yarn Chris used is from Blue Moon Fiber Arts, Socks that Rock in the medium weight in 'mossay'. Don't you just love the names of their yarns? Chris also purchased her yarn at the Churchmouse Yarns & Teas in my home town of Bainbridge Island, all here in the state of Washington. Happy Birthday Chris~
Bridget from Wisconsin not only knit, but also created her 'Flower Dress'. I think it's genius! She used Bernat Cottontots Solid and Cascade Yarns Sierra for her creation. I hear that Bridget is working on a pattern?? To read more from this talented knitter, here is her blog.
Elizabeth lives in Seattle, Washington, and works very hard for a charity organization called 'Warm for Winter'. They are an organization that helps the homeless. Seattle, like lots of cities, I suppose, have a homeless problem. Every year before the Thanksgiving holiday, they distribute hats and scarves to the homeless. They have a goal of 1000 items that they need. Elizabeth helps them and likes to knit Elizabeth Zimmermans Very Warm Hat WG-11. I love this hat too, and made it for my second son when he used to ski - he gets compliments on the hat every time he wears it, and it is warm. The yarn Elizabeth used in these hats was the Cascade Yarns 220 Wool. Thank you Elizabeth for all you do for the homeless of Seattle.
I'll starting things off this month with a scarf that I actually made last December as a gift for my sister in-law. The yarn I used was Lumpy Bumpy Yarn by Charlene, in the colorway Chocolate Covered Cherries. It's a simple garter stitch scarf letting the wild and fun colors in the yarn do all the work. My sister in-law Jan is a lover of pink, tall and blonde, so she loved it!
