welcome to america's knitting

This winter we will be focusing on sweaters. I encourage any of you.....if you have a sweater that you are proud of, email the picture to me from the contact page and you can share with everyone. I need to know the pattern that you used and the yarn.  Even if you are a yarn shop, you can submit a sweater to show off the work from your store.

Here is my friend Yvonne in a gorgeous sweater from Cheryl Oberle's Folk Vest book; it's the Sakiori 1 pattern knit with Cascade 220 doubled.

This is another sweater from my Brooke.  It's Knitting Pure & Simple's Neck Down Wrap Cardigan.  She used Cascade 220 Tweed.

My friend Kristin crochet's.  She does the cutest stuff and has started a business.  She has a website where she showcases her work and takes orders.  Here is the cutest sweater.....Moosethreads the yarn used here was Cascade 220.

This is my friend Brooke.  She is wearing a sweater that she made from the Knitting Pure & Simple line of pattens.  The pattern used was the Bulky V Neck Pullover.  To knit the sweater, she used Dale of Norway's Harlequin yarn. A note about this pattern.....when they say bulky, they mean a big sweater NOT bulky yarn!

Here is Carolyn from the Wild & Wooly Yarn Shop in Poulsbo, Washingtinton wearing a Noro sweater from volume 21, the pattern is 4478 (Noro Silk Garden Shell) using Noro's Silk Garden Lite.  Wild & Wooly

I guess I'm up.....I just finished this sweater yesterday.  It's a sweater pattern from Sally Melville's second book, Book 2: The Purl Stitch.  The name of the pattern is Simple & Sleeveless.  I think it's a great 1st sweater pattern.  The pattern was well written and easy to follow and it doesn't take forever or take a ton of yarn.  BUT, I did learn that I am not a fan of a rolled collar. The yarn I used was Myra Hansen's hand dyed dk & hand dyed mohair held together - SUPER SOFT.  I will also include the link to her store for that information.  I do however recommend Sally Melville's book; lot's of great information.  Myra's Yarn

This sweater was designed by Lesley Greenaway. Lesley lives in the UK and designed the sweater with the help of her Sweater Wizard software.  I think it's a very fun sweater, and I LOVE IT!  Thanks Lesley.  The sweater is a reverse stockinette pattern stitch with a 3 ply cashmere yarn.  the three plys are actually varying shades of red.

Lesley did her wording with cross stitch.  She made a chart for the wording, attach waste canvas to the front of the sweater and a light interfacing to the inside.  She embroidered the cross stitch chart, then dampened the waste canvas and removed it.  She says that the interfacing was necessary to stabilise the embroidery, so left it there.

Ok, so I went to the Madrona Fiber Arts Winter Retreat in Tacoma Washington.  It's a wonderful event with a market, so you know where I was.  I found this beautiful sweater you buy as a kit.  This sweater was made by Great Yarns out of Everett Washington.  You can find their listing under the "Knit Shops" page.  Go to Washington, go to Everett, and there they will be - BELLISIMO!

Here is a capelet from Chris Behme.  Chris works for a shop in Evansville Indiana called Four Ladies Needleart

Chris has also agreed to share her pattern for her capelet!  This capelet was made with Noro Iro!

*You may print this pattern for your own personal use, BUT, no sale of this pattern, OR sale of the capelets made from this pattern are permitted.  Our site was given permission by Chris Behme to publish her pattern!

This sweater is a kit compliments of Fancy Image Yarns in Shelton Washington.  Myra (the owner) calls it Baby & Kid Sweater Kit.  Myra hand dyes many types of yarns that you can find in her store.  This sweater and matching hat is made with her dk merino and novelty yarn.  It's perfect for Valentines Day!

Here is another kit by Myra for children called The Cutest Sweater Kits~

The two sweaters here are both "Knitting Pure & Simple" patterns. The first one is the V-Neck Neck Down Cardigan For Women #994. Lynn used Cascade Pastaza and made it for her daughter Kate who's wearing it in the photo. Because the pattern called for a size 7 needle and the Pastaza was to be made with a size 9 needle she just went down a size and it worked out fine. She also decided on no buttons so it would have a jacket affect.

The second sweater was also made by Lynn for Lynn. This was also Knitting Pure & Simple V-Neck Pullover Tunic, pattern #9726. She used Cascaded 220 Tweed.
